Consecrated Love

Inspiration for the Song

Are those who have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of God (Mt 19:12) losing one of the greatest happinesses of human life?

Is the life of a priest or a nun all loss with no genuine gain?

While it is true that these blessed ones of God are foregoing a great source of happiness in this life, it is also true that the life they now live on earth is the life that God has destined for all who become heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.

“[I]n the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven (Mt 22:30),” said Jesus to the Sad'ducees.

What this means is that a priest, nun, monk, or consecrated lay-person who has given his or her sexuality to God is actually living in this world the same state of life as are the blessed in heaven.

These holy ones are living and breathing signs of the reality of heavenly life. By their consecrated chastity, each bears witness to the divine reality that all children of God hope to gain one day.

Should consecrated chaste persons be pitied? No, for they witness to all who dwell on earth the great adventure that God has prepared for those who love him (Cor 2.9). Instead of pity, all seekers of God should stand in awe before these holy ones as they incarnate with their very lives a mystery that pertains to heavenly realms.
